What to do in Salem, MA in October

Salem, MA was first famous because of the witch trials where people were tried & prosecuted as witches. The witch trials took place in Salem, MA from February 1962 to May 1963. More than 200 people were tried, and 19 were found guilty and executed by hanging. Because of the witch trials and witch hunt, Salem, MA is known as the Halloween Capital of the United States.

People travel locally as well as from all over the country to visit Salem in October. Today, Salem is full of Halloween and witch activities and events. The local breweries do “broomstick beer flights” on Thursdays, haunted dinners, live music, psychic readings, and share ghost tales. Not to mention, the streets get filled with vendors and people in costume are everywhere. There are museums about the witch trials and other historical events in Salem, MA to visit during this month as well.
The famous movie, “Hocus Pocus” was filmed in Salem, and going to visit the locations it was filmed at is a popular activity. This year is Hocus Pocus’ 25th anniversary, the Sanderson sisters will be coming together and doing an interview on Freeform. There will also be a parade for Hocus Pocus – and self-guided tours which take you through areas in Salem where the movie was filmed is also available.
